AZ High Mountain Trail Rides
We’re the best place to ride, offering trail rides in the beautiful ponderosa pines! May 14th through September 30th, we offer rides through the Coconino National Forest of Arizona’s high country, in the town of Mormon Lake, AZ, 30 miles southeast of Flagstaff. Of course, with great weather, we may open a little earlier or stay a little later.
PLEASE NOTE: We have moved the office building down to backside of RV Park. Turn between the Lodge Office and Restroom area and head back into RV Park (the Speed Limit is 5mph and watch for the kiddo’s and horses). There will be a building to the right that has parking then walk back to horses. Look for the signs.
Our trails and horses are good for beginner riders, families, and riders of all levels.
Our rides depart from the heart of Mormon Lake, AZ, and take you through the ponderosa pine trees of North America. With wildlife abundant in the area, you may see elk, deer, foxes, raccoons, bobcats, and possibly a coyote. Horseback riding in Mormon Lake is a unique experience for all ages. Horseback riding in the pine trees gives you a new look at the forest. Let’s saddle up and ride!
Our mission is to provide well-trained and well-cared-for animals along with professional wranglers for our customers. We feel when these things are combined, we can provide a safe, relaxing, and enjoyable ride for the whole family! We strive to make sure every rider has a fun horseback ride, so they can have a truly unique sense of the old dusty trail.

Lovely trail ride through the forest, suitable for any level of rider. We got lucky and had Mason and Ray as our guides. They were both easy to talk to and fun to be around. The horses were well cared for. We are all pretty experienced riders, but it was still really nice to have a relaxing amble around the forest.

My favorite place to ride horses. Great horses and great wranglers! Very knowledgeable about the area, which includes Navajo Springs, the old railroad berm and a section of the Arizona Trail — beautiful scenery. I felt very comfortable and had a great ride!

My daughter and I had booked a 11:30am trail ride but had some car troubles on the way up from Phoenix. We called the stable and they happily rebooked us for a 1:30 ride. When we finally made it up, the team at AZ High Mountain Trail Rides was so welcoming and glad that we were able to make it. Mason was our guide through the beautiful surrounding forest and he was amazing and so much fun to talk to. He gave us lots of fun info about the area and made the ride really chill, which we needed! The horses were so sweet, the whole experience was great! We would highly recommend AZ High Mountain Trail Rides and will definitely be back.

These guys were amazing. It was a last minute idea and the reservation was quick and easy. I had my 3 grandkids with me that were a little nervous. Mason was patient and helpful and made the kids comfortable. So much so that they had a great time

My husband, daughter (age 16) and I had a wonderful experience with Mason as our guide. It was my daughter's first time riding and her horse was a perfect fit for her. We rode through the woods and then out to an open field where we had an opportunity to rest and take pictures. Mason was very attentive to all in the group, informative about the history of that area in the Coconino Forest, and experienced and comfortable around the horses. We felt confident that we were in good hands at all times. I would certainly recommend High Mountain Trail Rides. It was a highlight of our trip.
